The Junior Outdoor Youth Leadership program (JOYL) runs along side our 6 Day Regular Summer Camp. JOYL's will take part in special camp activities and projects. They will have the opportunity to shadow camp staff and assist with the leadership of games, free time activities, cabin watch and campfire programs to help develop their leadership skills and style.
If you are 12 to 14 years old, you can take part in the 6 day Junior Outdoor Youth Leadership program (JOYL). This fun program will introduce campers to leadership training, focusing on soft and hard skill development, fun and games. Begin developing your personal leadership skills by learning about yourself and the leaders around you. There will be a focus on group dynamics, communication, leadership and respect. The JOYL group will participate in their own separate overnight hike (the JOYL overnight out trip is a separate hike from the Youth Stargazer overnight trip) and our High Ropes Challenge Course where these skills will be further developed and reflected on. The JOYL program is an introductory version of our Outdoor Youth Leadership (OYL) program and is great experience for youth thinking about future employment in camps, recreation and outdoor education.
High Ropes Challenge Course:
The High Ropes Challenge Course is included in the JOYL’s program at no additional cost. JOYL’s are presented with unique challenges that require them to cooperate, coordinate and communicate effectively all while 20 to 40 feet in the air! Challenge Course programs support social-emotional learning, adaptability, and help to develop caring, insightful leaders with passion for self improvement and growth all while having loads of FUN!
Overnight Hike:
On Tuesdays, JOYL’s will embark for their exclusive overnight out trip to Whitetail Lake. They will learn how to set up their campsite, cook, clean up, and sleep under the stars at a private site just for the JOYL’s. Wednesdays, campers wake up for breakfast, and a morning swim in the crystal clear water at their very own beach before they hike back up to camp to join the rest of the summer campers for lunch.
