GUIDED ACTIVITIES

Add on these guided activities when you rent Blue Lake Lodge or Blue Lake Camp. These amazing adventures will make your stay a memorable one! All guided activities are lead by our friendly, experienced staff.


Hike

Half day Guided Hike (3-5 hours):

Travelling south from Blue Lake you will meander down through young pine forests and visit the Fishermaiden overlook where you will be able to view the entire valley. You will then enter mature Douglas fir forests and see historic CPR Tie cutting sites before arriving at the warm waters of Engstrom’s Pond. This deep clear blue alkaline lake sits at the head of the rare and endangered grasslands of the Lavington flats. The lake is a perfect little swimming hole so bring your bathing suit! Enjoy some snacks at the lake and explore the gnarled trunk of a massive Western Larch Tree. This hike is perfect for the young family who is looking to explore the outdoors. You should be reasonably fit to take part in this hike.

Full day Guided Hike (6-8 Hours):

You will be transported by vehicle up the slopes of Whitetail Mountain where you will get incredible views of the turquoise blue water of whitetail lake, to the trail head leading into Howling Wolf Lake located high in the Purcell Mountain Range. You will travel through the south facing slopes of dense sub-alpine forests into this secluded alpine lake where you can relax, explore the shores and enjoy a picnic lunch. If you are looking for a little more challenge and greater adventure, this hike if for you! We go as the mountain goat goes! This is a short distance hike (approx. 1.5 km) but you will climb up and side hill along a steeper south facing slope, you should have a good fitness level and be involved in a regular exercise program to participate in this family day hike.

Suggested Items:

  • A cold or frozen bottle of water or Gatorade

  • Sunglasses

  • Knee braces (if needed)

  • Sunscreen

  • Camera

Packing List:

  • Lightweight hiking shoes or hiking boots

  • Waterproof rain jacket or poncho

  • Warm wool or fleece top

  • Water bottles or bladder (2 liters total capacity)

  • Sunhat

Canoeing

Canoe Lesson (2 hours)

Our instructor will take you through the parts of a canoe and paddle, how to hold a paddle, basic forward and reverse paddle strokes, the more advanced draw and pry strokes and finally the out-tripper J-stroke. You will also learn how to properly enter and exit a canoe and how to sit so you don’t end up in the water. Finally, you will get out on the water and practice these skills and play a few games to really understand how to get to where you want! Cost includes instruction, canoe, paddles and lifejackets.

Guided Snowshoe Hike (2-3 Hours):

Strap on the snowshoes and explore the deep white powder of the Purcells. You will travel along snow covered pathways past the Great Granddaddy Fir to the Lavington Viewpoint. Take in the breath-taking view as you sip on hot chocolate and enjoy the sounds and smells of winter. Price includes hot drink, snowshoes and guide.
